MHPOD Pathways is a tool designed to guide your personal learning journey by uncovering key areas for knowledge development – in this pilot project we looked at some of the key areas of recovery.
First, you’ll be asked to complete a short self-assessment. The tool analyses your current knowledge against established benchmarks and standards, allowing you to discover areas of strength as well as potential gaps that can be supported with targeted learning.
After you complete the assessment MHPOD Pathways generates a curated list of over 100 recommended resources and eLearning content (within and external to the MHPOD Program) – creating a customised pathway so you can focus your time and effort on specific learning areas.
The MHPOD team are developing the tool as a pilot using recovery-oriented practice content as the testing framework. After the pilot’s evaluation, we plan to expand the range of standards and frameworks used in the assessment process.
The health and wellbeing sector has long recognised the challenge of matching the needs of individual learners with the diverse range of content and resources available.
Well-designed learning often has some level of ‘self-selection’ based on knowledge checks. However, learners are typically presented with professional development resources that don’t account for prior knowledge or the specific development needs of their role.
Professional development may also use the ‘if you fail the test then go back and review the content’ approach, which isn’t supported by research into adult learning principles.
We believe MHPOD Pathways benefits learners and organisations alike in several ways.

Pathways is being developed to support Australia’s health services and its broad mental health and related workforce community.
To continue building the range of standards and benchmarks learners can test themselves against, we need to ensure MHPOD Pathways is used and valued. Getting feedback and insight from our community provides the best foundation to expand its capability.
