The Knowledge Check quiz has been designed to identify if you are already familiar with the content, concepts and issues addressed in the topic. Generally you will answer two questions per learning objective. Successful completion of the knowledge check quiz equals successful completion of the topic. If you answer a question incorrectly you will go to the Learning Plan. From the Introduction select the next button or knowledge check to go to the knowledge check quiz.

When you answer a question correctly you will receive the feedback "That is correct". Successful completion of the knowledge check quiz equals successful completion of the topic. When you have completed all the questions correctly you will arrive at the Assessment Results screen. Your score will be shown and you will receive the message "Congratulations, you have answered all the questions correctly. You can close this topic and begin the next one." However, if you are interested to work through the topic you may do so.

If you answer a knowledge check question incorrectly you will receive the following feedback "That is incorrect". On completion of the quiz, you will arrive at the Assessment Results screen. Your score will be shown along with a comment that you are not yet competent in all the objectives. Select the next button to go to the Learning plan.

There are three ways to navigate within a topic: 1. Use the next button to navigate in a linear way through the topic. This will take you to the next page and to the next tab; 2. Use the page icon to navigate within a tab; 3. Use the tabs at the top of the screen to go to different sections of the topic.

MHPOD is a new, evidence-based online learning resource for people working in mental health. There is about seventy hours of material on fifty topics, written and produced in Australia. The topics range from recovery to legislation and dual disability. Each topic includes an overview, knowledge check, activity, in-practice section, and a list of resources. The in-practice section involves people from mental health talking about what a particular topic means to them.

It has been primarily designed for nurses, social workers, occupational therapists, psychiatrists and psychologists working in mental health in Australia. It is expected that other people, including consumer advocates, carer advocates, Aboriginal health workers, and other allied health workers will also find it useful.

The curriculum is based on the National Practice Standards for the Mental Health Workforce 2002 (Practice Standards). The Practice Standards describe the knowledge, skills and attitudes required of staff working in Australian mental health services, and complement the requirements of professional standards. The twelve standards cover a range of areas, including rights and responsibilities; early detection and intervention; and ethical practice.

You can't get access to the completed version of MHPOD until March/April 2010 at the earliest. The delivery of MHPOD will vary from jurisdiction to jurisdiction although it is anticipated every learner will need a unique identifier and you will need to register to access MHPOD through your workplace. It is expected that each state and territory will have a state-wide administrator who will control the overall access to MHPOD. It is also anticipated there will be a controlled initial roll-out of MHPOD in pilot sites prior to MHPOD being made more broadly available to workers and services. Plans for rollout are still in development and may vary between jurisdictions. Mental health nurses, psychologists and psychiatrists working in the private sector should go to mhpod.gov.au and look at the access page, keeping in mind the timeline above.

No. Commonwealth, state and territory governments have funded access for 14,000 people working in mental health across Australia. It is expected that most people working in public mental health services will have access, and additionally a significant number of mental health nurses, psychologists and psychiatrists working in the private sector.

You can’t get access to the complete version of MHPOD until March/Apriol 2010 at the earliest. If you are eligible, you will then need to register to access MHPOD, generally through your workplace. Contact the mental health educator in your service. Every learner needs to have a unique identifier. From March/April 2010, a learning support service will be in place as a central point of contact to support users and MHPOD coordinators. This would be an initial point of contact for any issue, whether technical, functional or content-related.

MHPOD is designed to operate in any standard web browser with the Flash plug-in. Very old versions (more than 4 years old) such as IE5 and Netscape are not supported. MHPOD is built in Flash and requires the plug-in for Flash 9 or above. Overall Windows XP/Vista and Pentium 4 or better and 1 Gigabyte of RAM is recommended. MHPOD will operate effectively at specifications down to P3. The complete system requirements (Windows, Macintosh and other operating systems) for Flash are regularly updated on the Adobe site: http://www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer/systemreqs/ The screen is optimized for 1024 X 768 pixels and a sound card is required for video and audio content.

People working in the in the non-government mental health sector will also find this learning program useful. However, this group of workers is not part of the initial rollout. It is expected that there will be a number of issues to sort through when MHPOD becomes fully available, as with any new project. The focus initially will be on successfully implementing MHPOD with the initial group of specified users across Australia.
